Juan Bugarin is an architect with a Master’s degree in Mass Timber Design from IAAC and the Erasmus Mundus Master in Sustainable Design, Construction, and Management of the Built Environment (MBUILD). His research focused on Parametric Design Strategies for Low-Carbon Housing through Hybrid 3D-Printed Earth-Timber Construction. In 2025, he was selected as a Holcim Foundation Fellow at UCL and participated in the MIT Portugal Innovation Workshop at MIT.
With over ten years of design project management experience and three years of teaching Eco-Design at TecNM, Juan’s professional portfolio spans residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, and mixed-use projects, as well as furniture design and fabrication.
His academic work emphasizes sustainable construction, digital design, and circular economy strategies. Building on his architectural practice across Mexico, the U.S., and Europe, he integrates biomaterials, prefabrication, and parametric workflows to advance low-carbon construction.
